Priorities

The Community Foundation is being praised by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD  and global climate champion and former President Mary Robinson as it marks 17,000 philanthropic grants to voluntary, community and charitable groups to advance an equality mission

Established as a philanthropic hub as a result of social partnership talks in 2000, the Foundation has identified ‘People, Place and Planet’ as priorities which will direct and inform its future work.

The Impact Report confirms

  • Donations of €200 million with 60% received in just the past five-years
  • 17,000 grants to partner communities, organisations and groups
  • Total grant-making of over €160 million
  • An endowment fund of approx. €60 million

People and Communities

The report highlights the focus of Community Foundation Ireland in prioritising people and communities which are isolated or excluded from society. With a strategic focus, support is provided for projects which seek solutions often to long-standing issues.

Current work highlighted includes responses to child poverty, discrimination, gender-based violence as well as the crisis in climate and nature.

Publishing the report, Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of Community Foundation Ireland said:

“Partnership is central to everything we do. Working alongside communities and organisations striving to create meaningful change.

This access to on-the-ground knowledge, evidence and top-class research allows the identification of social barriers impacting people and their communities and the steps needed to smash through them.

These insights inform and guide philanthropists, ensuring contributions are directed to where they can have the greatest impact.”

In a special video message for the occasion, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, TD said:

“The Foundation was established with two core goals: Growing a philanthropic ethos within Ireland; and building a fund to support charitable causes and communities in Ireland and overseas.

Looking on 25-years later, it is obvious how hugely successful Community Foundation Ireland and all of you involved in the organisation have been in surpassing those objectives.

In her message former President Mary Robinson said:

“I am delighted to salute Community Foundation Ireland as you mark the 25th anniversary of your work, and you mark it in good spirits with a very strong vision going forward. Your shared commitment to People, Place and Planet is your driving force behind the mission Equality For All in Thriving Communities.”
