Combatting and ending poverty is a key part of Community Foundation Ireland’s work to achieve our equality mission. We work with those supporting people and families in the frontline of the poverty crisis as well as advocates for policy change.
Feed Cork has worked tirelessly since 2021 to fight food poverty. The Community Foundation’s strategic giving supports Feed Cork through the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal, creating a flourishing partnership addressing both the symptoms and root causes of poverty.
At the core or their work is Feed Cork’s food bank delivering a choice of groceries for people struggling to meet the most basic of needs. Open two days a week it is a friendly safe space where people are welcomed and supported.
In line with the Foundation’s commitment to eradicating child poverty, Feed Cork has an ‘Afterschool Fuel Program’ supporting struggling students who rely on school meals and may otherwise go without on weekends. The organisation provides them with a weekend worth of meals, including breakfast, lunch, diner, and snacks on Fridays.
Going further a Pathfinder program pairs families in need with social workers to help identify the causes of people’s financial struggle and develop individually tailored solutions.
At Community Foundation Ireland, we recognize that poverty is driven by structural issues and can become a vicious cycle impossible to escape. We are proud to partner with Feed Cork. Through lasting, community-lead change, this community organisation is working towards ensuring that no person in Cork goes hungry.
