Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment with special responsibility for the Circular Economy, Alan Dillon has announced funding of €650,000 for 14 projects across Ireland under the fourth Circular Economy Innovation Grant Scheme (CEIGS).
Minister Dillon made the announcement during a visit to grant recipient Accelerate Change Together (ACT) at its offices in Ballina yesterday, 9th February . The grants provide significant financial support to projects that are working on innovative and scalable solutions to advance Ireland’s transition to a circular economy – an economy where resources are reused, waste is minimised and sustainability is at the core of production and consumption.
Congratulating the successful applicants, Minister Dillon said:
“Welldone to all 14 recipients who have been successful under the Circular Economy Innovation grant Scheme this year.
Their commitment to developing solutions that reduce waste and make better use of resources is a key element of Ireland’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
These successful projects demonstrate the innovation and ambition needed to deliver real change and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have.”
Following a tour of the Accelerate Change Together project in Ballina, Minister Dillon congratulated the ACT team, describing the project as one that “exemplifies the creativity, community leadership and practical climate action needed to transition to a circular economy”. Minister Dillon noted that “initiatives like this not only reduce waste but also strengthen the local economy and provide local jobs”.
Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of Community Foundation Ireland added:
“At Community Foundation Ireland, we see every day how much potential there is in communities when the right support is in place.
This funding is another boost for people and organisations finding new and practical ways to reduce waste and make their existing work more circular.
We welcome this partnership with government to bring these ideas to life. When innovation and community come together, real positive change happens, and this is another step in the right direction for Ireland.”
The selected projects will support the drive to develop the circular economy in areas such as: plastics; textiles; repurposing and reuse; circular construction; batteries and tyres; and food waste prevention.
