Starting with a single community foundation in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914, the community foundation field has exploded during the past 100 years, with over 1800 worldwide today. Whilst each community foundation is a stand-alone charitable organisation, the community foundation model is characterised by knowledge sharing and collaboration. Since 2000, The Community Foundation for Ireland has worked closely with many other community foundations, including The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, UKCF, Silicon Valley Community Foundation and the Community Foundations of Canada.
We support donors in giving in Ireland and overseas and since 2000 have made grants to many countries around the world. Change is seldom a single country phenomenon. From climate change to social change we are deeply influenced by the world around us and contribute to it. In cooperation and in solidarity with likeminded movements we have much to learn and to give.
The Community Foundation for Ireland undertakes grant making in Ireland on behalf of a number of corporate donors to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation which requires Equivalency Determination in line with US regulations. Equally, we can assist US based donors to distribute grants in Ireland in collaboration with a number of partners including NGO Source and the King Baudouin Foundation.

We welcome queries from community foundations and other trusts and foundations based outside Ireland and have a strong track record of working with such organisations.
