The Gloss Magazine - Putting Their Money Where Their Heart Is
05 May 2011 | In NewsThis month The Gloss magazine features a great article about two previous winners of our Philanthropist of the Year Awards - Jane Corboy and Chantal McCabe. Our CEO Tina Roche is quoted "Women are likely to donate to a cause to which they feel an emotional connection, says Tina Roche, CEO of the Community Foundation for Ireland, an organisation that facilitates planned giving by individuals, families and organisations. She says women don’t want to just support an organisation with a cheque: “They want to know what real difference it will make. They see themselves shaping their communities.”
And they’re often particularly interested in helping other women. Roche has observed that when it comes to issues such as domestic violence, women feel emotionally involved. And there may also be a sense of underdog solidarity. “Women are wondering why we don’t have more women at the top,” says Roche. “There’s a sense that we have such a highly educated female workforce and a level of frustration that we haven’t moved on enough in 20 years. So women are thinking ‘we have to do something’ and are helping other women in whatever ways they can.”
