The Community Foundation for Ireland Welcomes Government Initiative to Support Philanthropy
21 June 2010 | In Press ReleasesThe Community Foundation for Ireland, a philanthropic and grant making organisation, welcomes Minister Carey’s initiative to support and develop philanthropy in Ireland which was launched today at the National Forum on Philanthropy.
Speaking about the announcement, Tina Roche CEO of The Community Foundation for Ireland said. “It is a much needed endorsement to allow for the development of a philanthropic culture for the future. Philanthropy in Ireland is still in development stages in comparison with other EU countries, in particular the UK, and this support from government should give a much needed boost to accelerate its growth. Any action taken by the government that supports philanthropy should be welcomed and the extension of the Forum on Philanthropy for another two years is a sign of the commitment from government.”
The Community Foundation for Ireland works with philanthropists to help them to plan their giving and to connect them with the causes that matter to them. The Foundation currently has over €26 million under endowment which is used to support community initiatives and groups around the country. This year an increasing number of family funds have been established at The Foundation and it has also launched the first ever Women’s Fund for Ireland which is fostering the engagement of women in philanthropy by encouraging them to support women’s causes around the country.
The drive to get women more actively involved in philanthropy will be continuing tomorrow at the second Women in Philanthropy event to be held by The Community Foundation for Ireland this year. Speaking at the event taking place in the offices of Chartered Accountants Ireland will be Dame Stephanie Shirley, the UK’s first ever Ambassador for Philanthropy.
