Flood recovery fund

• The Community Foundation for Ireland pledges €20,000 to initiate Flood Recovery Fund
The Community Foundation for Ireland, an organisation that supports local communities all around Ireland has established a Flood Recovery Fund to assist the people who have been seriously affected by the floods over the past number of days.
The Community Foundation has already pledged €20,000 to the fund and is encouraging all other businesses and individuals to follow suit and to contribute what they can to the fund. This can be done online at http://www.foundation.ie or by contacting the foundation directly on 01-874 7354.
The fund will be distributed to charities and community organisations that are directly assisting any families or individuals who have been affected by the floods and will be given in the form of grants ranging from €500 to €5,000.
“We have all been very saddened by the reports and by the pictures that we see on a daily basis of people in neighbouring towns and counties who have been so severely damaged by the recent floods. Many of these people will be facing a very difficult time, particularly in the run up to Christmas. This is a chance for the people who have managed to escape the worst of the flooding to reach out to those people and show support. The Community Foundation for Ireland will be able to support charities and groups that are already on the ground supporting the affected communities so donations will have a very real and significant impact” said Tina Roche CEO of The Community Foundation for Ireland.
The Community Foundation has set a target of €200,000 for the fund and needs assistance from everyone to try and reach this target.
Charities and community groups that wish to apply for a grant can do so by contacting the Foundation directly. The initial focus of the support is:
- Food
- Clothing
- Bedding
- Clean-up
Priority will be given to community and voluntary groups providing support to one or more of the following:
• Older people
• Families with young children
• People with physical or learning disabilities
• People with mental health needs
• People on low incomes
And to projects:
• Showing evidence of collaboration with other service providers
• Maximising the use of volunteers
