Community Gardens - Great Growth
25 November 2011 | InThe Community Foundation for Ireland today (24.11.2011) presented cheques totalling €52,000 from The Community Growers Fund to 16 Dublin based community groups. The fund supports community garden initiatives which involve local unemployed people and others in the community. Groups present included groups with both new and existing community garden projects. The fund was established in 2010 with the support of The Mount Street Club Trust. Among those expressing their support were Serenity Garden from Phibsboro who spoke about the impact on people living locally. They have many people for whom English is not their first language and how the garden became a centrepoint for people to get to know each other. In Fettercairn local youngsters also got involved and have become really interested in growing. Ciaran Walsh from GIY said he expected to 2012 to really demonstrate the fruits of peoples’ labour.
