County Funds
Setting up a County Fund
You can help to contribute to the development of your County Fund. Whether you are living in your home county, elsewhere in Ireland – or abroad – your support could make a real impact on the key social issues in your county. Setting up a County Fund can take time but the Community Foundation for Ireland is here to assist anyone who is interested along each step of the process.
The Process
- Contact The Community Foundation for initial advice and an information pack
- To set up a strong and lasting County Fund you need to gain support for the project from key business people or organisations in your area, once a key group of supporters has been established we will be happy to assist with presentations or meetings with regards to the details of a setting up and running a county fund and how we can make it work for you and your County.
- Establishing a strong committee is essential: this is vital and requires a mix of skills and backgrounds to develop the two primary activities of the committee i.e. fundraising and grant making. An effective and motivated county committee is likely to include among its members - professionals (such as an accountant and a solicitor) entrepreneurs and representatives of the local corporate, business and community & voluntary sectors. We need people with vision who can see the strategic benefits for your county.
- If there is a commitment to progress, The Community Foundation will issue a challenge grant of up to €100,000 towards the permanent endowment fund. For every €1,000 raised for endowment, we will add a further €500 towards the permanent endowment fund.
- The Community Foundation for Ireland will work with you to put in place a plan of action to help the committee develop a local funding and grant making base.
At the Community Foundation we are already assisting your county through our own grant making scheme. To see the impacts we are already having in your county and the potential impact that a County Fund could have please visit our Grassroots Grants Map.
