Making a Will/Leave a Legacy

Leave a Legacy

People can include the Community Foundation for Ireland in their will and help to establish a permanent charitable fund for the community, their county or for any other important causes of concern.

When it comes to “Leaving a Legacy,” the unique approach that we take ensures that your interests and wishes can be fully complied with. Unlike other organisations and charities, the Foundation has few thematic and no geographic limitations. So, whatever your wishes are, we can facilitate you.

Arranging a Legacy

Arranging a legacy couldn’t be simpler. If you avail of the services of a professional such as an accountant, solicitor, private banker or other financial advisor, then talk to them about leaving a gift - and the tax benefits associated with planned giving. If you don’t currently avail of such services, the Foundation would be happy to introduce you to a suitable professional if required.

  • To help you decide on how best to leave a legacy, we can arrange a confidential, no obligation discussion in order to understand what cause(s) you wish to contribute to beyond your lifetime. Our staff has an extensive range of contacts throughout the community, charity and voluntary sector here in Ireland, ensuring we can match donors’ interests with suitable projects in the community deserving support.
  • Donors can elect to create a fund established for the cause(s) they value most, setting out the manner in which they wish their charitable intentions to be fulfilled. The Foundation will fully honour their wishes in the years ahead, and donors can remain anonymous if they so wish.
  • Alternatively, a simpler, but equally effective approach is to bequest our own Permanent Endowment Fund, which we use to make grants to community groups around the country through our Grassroots Grants Scheme. By adding to the endowment Fund this will help us ensure that whatever social challenges we face in the future, our Board and expert grant making committees will have the capacity to respond to those challenges.

My Legacy

My Legacy was established in 2003 by a small group of Irish charities who wished to spread the word about charitable bequests. Since then it has grown and today represents many leading Irish charities and not-for-profit organisations.
MyLegacy.ie provides unbiased, useful information to individuals, charities and solicitors about leaving legacies to charities. It works to promote legacy giving and gives donors, solicitors and charities the information they need to make it happen. The Community Foundation for Ireland is a member and has also previously grant-aided the development of this initiative.
