County Funds:
The next stage in growing a strong Community Foundation for Ireland is the establishment of a network of County Funds, grown through the fundraising efforts of local County Committees, who in turn play a key role in assessing, understanding and responding to the needs of local community and voluntary groups in their county. Throughout the world, local funds operate under the aegis of community foundations and have been powerful agents for change and social development. As The Community Foundation for Ireland grows through these county funds, its unique network of local, national and international experience and expertise will help further develop local community initiatives throughout Ireland.
Monaghan establishes first County Fund:
With the support of the Co. Monaghan Community Network, the Co. Monaghan Fund at the Community Foundation for Ireland was launched in mid-2004. Already, this permanent fund has grown to over €200,000, and has received many further pledges of contributions. With the assistance of The Foundation, many community and voluntary groups in Co. Monaghan have already received financial support.
The Co. Monaghan Committee is chaired by Frank Cosgrove. The committee includes Francis Mc Carron (Secretary); Kieran Finlay; Julie Gilhooley; Cathal McCarthy; Siobhain McCormick; Maurice Moffet; Robert Moffet; Michael Treanor; Padraig Watters and Robert Wilson.

Establishing a Fund for your county:
Can you help contribute to the establishment of your County Fund? Whether you are living in your home county, elsewhere in Ireland – or abroad – your support could make real impact on the key social issues in your county.
With our support, each committee oversees the growth of their county fund, and its support for local community and voluntary initiatives. Such a donor led committee requires a mix of skills and backgrounds to develop the two primary activities of the committee i.e. fundraising and grantmaking. An effective and motivated county committee is likely to include among its members professionals (such as an accountant and a solicitor) entrepreneurs and representatives of the local corporate, business and community & voluntary sectors – all of whom would have good networking skills.
