How does Ireland fare in global philanthropy terms? Our keynote speaker Emma Turner, Head of Client Philanthropy at Barclay’s Wealth will present Barclay’s Wealth’s recent report 'Global Giving: The Culture of Philanthropy' which measured the resources being invested into charity and causes by wealthy people across the world, using both money and time as gauges for the first time. Emma Turner was appointed in 2009 as Barclays Wealth’s Director and Head of Philanthropy for its UK & Ireland Private Bank. She joined from Goldman Sachs where she was executive director of the Charitable Services Group in EMEA and Asia. Prior to her eleven years’ service at Goldman Sachs, Emma had spent ten years with a major London charity.
The Women’s Fund at The Community Foundation for Ireland, was established in April 2010 and it is the first of its kind in Ireland, solely dedicated to supporting women’s causes and charitable initiatives across the country. It is intended to grow the Women’s Fund into a long term fund which will become a permanent source of funding for women’s causes. The Fund is already approaching €250,000 in value. In addition, the Women’s Fund is a mechanism for flow through grants to projects in the short term and over €40,000 has been distributed in two grant rounds to date. Current priorities of the grants are aimed at preventing violence against women and also empowering women to take leadership roles in their communities.
